Din Daeng is a relaxed suburb around Ratchada Rot Fai Train Night Market, a buzzing hub of outdoor stalls selling clothing and souvenirs, plus grilled seafood and fried snacks. Also here are easy-going bars offering local beers and live music. Our Lady of Fatima Church is known for its stained-glass windows and monthly processions, while the nearby Thailand Cultural Centre stages classical concerts and ballets. The district was created in 1993, when the eastern part of Phaya Thai was split off to form a new district. The district is highly populated partly due to the concentration of apartments along Din Daeng Road and Pracha Songkhro Road, built by the National Housing Authority.
It’s name ,”Din Daeng”, meaning “red soil”, derived from the name of Din Daeng Road that cuts through the area because during the period of the government of Field Marshal Plaek Pibulsongkram, the construction of this road made this area full of red soil dust. The district is now predominantly residential with different military and government offices spread around, along with a multitude of restaurants and local shops.
Ratchadaphisek Road offers easy access to the world. The MRT Subway lets you go wherever you need to go quickly and effectively, and shopping malls and high rise condominiums are plentiful. You will also find the entertainment areas of Huay Kwang accross the road. Never a boring moment.
If you are a food lover, the backstreets west from Ratchadaphisek Road offers an endless choice of restaurants serving food from every corner of the world. You also have plenty of quiet cafes as well as grocery stores and local Markets. You also have big markets like the The Ratchada Night market, Din Daeng Market and Huai Khwang Market to the East. Din Daeng offers everything you need in a balanced, busy but relaxed atmosphere.
